The MBA in international business gives a strong foundation in general management subjects and all the basic areas of international business during the first year. In the second year the students choose their specialisation in areas of marketing, finance, supply chain management etc with special emphasis on the international business perspective.
In essence, an MBA in international business is equivalent to a normal MBA with additional inputs on fundamental theories and areas of international business.
The students specialise in the usual functional areas of marketing, finance, supply chain management etc, but the courses have special emphasis on the international business perspective. In fact, with globalisation and increasing competition from MNCs and foreign competitors, all MBAs today must be exposed to the global environment. Even domestic companies will insist on MBAs having knowledge on the international business scenario.

In consultancy firms a fresh graduate is usually recruited as a management trainee and a salary offered to a graduate in international business management from a reputed institute ranges between Rs. 4 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh per annum. For international placement the salaries can be up to 11 lakhs per annum and the corporates, while hiring, naturally give preference to international business graduates for overseas postings.
Institutes offering MBA in international business
The more reputed institutes offering a degree in international business normally have a two-year full time residential course for the same. A student should choose a reputed Institute on the basis of good infrastructure, experienced faculty in international business, and well-equipped library with sufficient no of books, CD's on international business, and above all an excellent placements track record.
Apart from these there are several other institutes offering an MBA in International business. These should be carefully evaluated and students should be careful to avoid institutes not having a good previous track record as such institutes do not have the necessary infrastructure for teaching international business and also cannot give placements.

Indian exports are growing at a rapid pace and are expected to double in the next five years, reaching a figure to the tune of 150 billion US dollars. This will lead to vast job opportunities in international business. MNCs and foreign Companies are coming to India in a big way and since these companies operate in a global environment they will offer opportunities galore for international business management graduates. Thus in conclusion an MBA in international business can lead to excellent career prospects offering jobs in both International as well as Domestic sector A word of caution here that one must consciously avoid any aversion to or bias against working in the domestic industry. Often those opting for specialization in international business do so with a preconceived notion that they would be working only for MNC’s and that too preferably in a posting abroad. It is not wise to take this for granted, as job offers with international profile may not be the general rule and are often linked to market conditions. The student should have an open mind and a flexible approach to perform successfully both domestic and International environments.
